Dr. Gina Mortellaro-Gomez:D.A.O.M., M.S.O.M., B.S., L.Ac., C.H., NCCAOM Dipl. O.M., FABORM
Dr. Gina lives, plays and has her Chinese & Functional Medical practice in beautiful Lakewood, Colorado with her husband, Gary, their two dogs, Zen and Zola and their two cats, Bella and Buddy. In practice, Dr. Gina specializes in Reproductive Medicine (Fertility care – [Natural and ART - "Assisted Reproductive Technology"] Support) and OBGYN (support for common OBGYN health issues), as well as, in the “balancing of hormones (Female, Adrenal, Thyroid) utilizing a combination of Chinese and Functional Medicine, as well as, Dietary and Nutritional Therapy. Dr. Gina loves working with and empowering women to live their healthiest lives! Dr. Mortellaro-Gomez began her studies in the field of health over 20 years ago, earning a B.S. in Kinesiology and Applied Physiology from the University of Colorado at Boulder and has a history as a Fitness and personal trainer with background studies from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Gina continued her studies & earned her Master’s of Science in Oriental Medicine (MSOM - 4 year degree) from South West Acupuncture College in Boulder, Colorado. After 6 years in private practice, Dr. Mortellaro-Gomez returned to school (while maintaining her practice in Denver, CO.) to pursue her Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM - 2.5 year residency), earning her DAOM from Yo San University, in Los Angeles, California in the specialty of Reproductive Medicine (For Men and Women), Women's health-OBGYN and Men's Urologic and Reproductive Health.
Dr. Mortellaro-Gomez's Thesis Research Title was: Infertility and Autoimmune Hypothyroid (Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis): Neuroendocrine-Immune modulation and fertility support utilizing Traditional Herbal Medicine (THM). A Systematic Review. To view Dr. Mortellaro-Gomez's Doctoral Dissertation and Defense, please visit Dr. Mortellaro-Gomez is a Nationally Board certified diplomat in Oriental Medicine by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). This includes certifications in both Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, as well as, certification in Clean Needle Technique and the passing of 5 National Board Examinations (Consisting of: Chinese Medical theory and diagnosis board exam, Western Biomedicine board exam, Acupuncture point location board exam, Acupuncture point energetics board exam and a Chinese Herbal Medicine board exam). Dr. Mortellaro-Gomez is Nationally Board Certified in Oriental Reproductive Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (FABORM) which includes advanced competencies in both Western Bio-Medical and Chinese Medical Reproductive Endocrinology, Gynecology, Obstetrics, Male Urology, Reproductive Medicine and Infertility and the passing of a 6th National Board Examination. Dr. Mortellaro-Gomez also received advanced clinical training and a post-graduate diploma in Chinese Herbal Medicine from the Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences in Beijing, China, which also included interning at one of Beijing's top and busiest hospitals, Tong Ren Hospital, in Beijing China. She also completed an advanced clinical externship in “Ancient Chinese Medicine” (ACM) specializing in Acupuncture, Chinese Herbology & Meditation, receiving a post-graduate diploma from The Shanghai Insight Ancient Chinese Medicine Training Center in Shanghai, China. Upon her return from China, Gina completed an advanced clinical apprenticeship in Acupuncture Sports Medicine with Whitfield Reaves, O.M.D. Currently, Dr. Mortellaro-Gomez is participating in the the year long Chinese Dermatology Diplomat program taught by the world renowed Mazin Al-Khafaji (mazin-al-khafaji.com, dermatology-m.com, tcmdermatology.org) in San Jose, California at Five Branches University of Chinese Medicine. Dr. Gina will sit for the International Chinese Dermatology board exam in November 2019. Dr. Gina sought out these additional studies in Chinese herbal Dermatology because a large population of Dr. Gina's patients deal with autoimmune issues and with many autoimmune issues there are very often accompanying dermatology (skin) issues, as well as, autoimmune issues being the underlying cause of several skin conditions (ie: Psoriasis, Lichen Planus, Alopecia Areata, etc). Dr. Gina is super excited to be bringing this knowledge back to further help her patients!
Dr. Mortellaro-Gomez's training also includes adjunct therapies such as, Moxibustion, Cupping, Guasha, Auriculotherapy, Tui Na, and Shiastu.
Dr. Mortellaro-Gomez heavily integrates Functional Medicine and Metabolic, Dietary and Nutritional therapy into her practice, as lifestyle, diet and nutrition are the foundations to lasting health and longevity. Dr. Mortellaro-Gomez studies and practices Functional Medicine and is certified in Functional Blood Chemistry by Apex Energetics, as well as, completed a year and half long Functional Medicine Mentorship under Dr. Daniel Kalish, D.C., Kalish Functional Medicine Institute.
Dr. Mortellaro-Gomez also lectures and instructs on the integration of Chinese Medicine and Functional Medicine. Dr. Gina has a recorded CEU Webinar on Healthy Seminars titled, "How Chinese Herbal Medicine Enhances Fertility Potenital in Patients Diagnosed with Hashimoto’s (Auto-Immune Hypothyroid)”. This course is based on a combination of Dr. Gina’s 12+ years of clinical experience and her formal doctoral research and Capstone thesis which looked at how "Traditional Herbal Medicine" modulates the Neuro-Endocrine-Immune System in patients diagnosed with Hashimoto's (Auto-immune Hypothyroid) who are also struggling with infertility.
In addition to her formal studies, private practice and lecturing, Dr. Mortellaro-Gomez has spent an extensive amount of time traveling abroad in China, Nepal and Thailand and strives to take her experiences and time from being abroad and apply them not only in her day-to -day life but also within her medical practice.
Dr. Gina is also an avid recreational athlete who loves the beautiful Colorado outdoors, spending much of her personal time either in the mountains skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking and hiking or taking it to the front range with her road biking, trail running, walks with her dogs and yoga. Her favorite things in life are spending time and going on adventures with her husband, Gary, and their two dogs, Zen and Zola Lou most preferrably, somewhere in the Colorado mountains!
