Obstetrics & Gynecological Disorders:
Though Chinese Medicine’s mechanisms of actions are still not widely understood by Western science, countless studies have shown Chinese Medicine (Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Therapy) to have a significant effect and impact on the “hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis” (HPO). The “HPO” is technically, the “brain-ovarian communication system which is responsible for regulating a woman’s menstrual cycle and maintaining appropriate hormone balance throughout a woman’s reproductive life, as well as, following her reproductive years (ie: peri-menopause/Menopause). Chinese Medicine (Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Therapy), therefore has the ability to influence and change endocrine function and hormone levels. Such changes have been shown to result in the regulation of menstrual cycles due to both hormonal imbalances and structural impediments (such as fibroids, cysts, or pelvic adhesions), as well as, enhance and improve fertility potential. Chinese medicine has also been hailed for its ability to reduce and or control the vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause (hot flashes, night sweats), and can dramatically improve areas of common disturbance such as sleep performance and psychological health.
Please Refer to “The Menstrual Cycle” page to learn more how Chinese Medicine views the Menstrual Cycle, as well as, applies treatment to regulate the menstrual cycle.
